History Sucks

Yesterday, as I was teaching, I noticed after class that a student had scribbled onto his desk this phrase, "History Sucks". Was it some student just trying to get back at his teacher? Probably. But as I thought about it, I began to think that sometimes we take that approach too.

We say history sucks when...
1. We don't learn from our mistakes.
2. We repeat the mistakes of those who came before us.
3. We disregard godly wisdom from those who have been around longer.
4. We recklessly try to change traditions without learning why they exist (in churches or otherwise).

I know that we look forward with vision, but let's remember that we are a link in the chain of great men and women who came before us.
